Preparation
When should I start studying?
The best time to start studying is now! Whether you’re still in your internship or have already graduated, starting early gives you time to break the material into manageable sections, reinforce difficult concepts, and build confidence before test day.
How do I know if I’m ready to take the exam?
A good indicator of readiness is consistent performance on practice questions and mock exams. If you’re able to explain why an answer is correct (and why the others are incorrect), apply concepts across different scenarios, and feel confident in your knowledge—not just memorization—you’re likely ready.
What if I don’t pass the first time?
First, know that you are not alone—many successful music therapists have had to retake the exam. The most important thing is to assess what went wrong and adjust your study strategy.
Pricing and Accessibility
How much does tutoring cost?
Melodic Mentor tutoring sessions are $45 per hour, with flexible options available for 30-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute sessions to fit your needs. This rate is intentionally kept affordable to ensure high-quality exam preparation remains accessible. Yes! You can book individual sessions or choose a package deal to save money on multiple sessions. Package deals provide structured support at a discounted rate, making it easier to commit to a study plan while staying within budget.
Do I have to buy tutoring to access resources?
Yes—once you become a Melodic Mentor student by booking any type of study session (one-on-one tutoring, small group tutoring, or Group Study Hour), you gain exclusive access to the private Google Drive, which includes original study resources, Quizlet sets, and additional materials to support your exam preparation. This ensures that students receive both personalized guidance and high-quality study tools.

Cancellations and Reschedules
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you please reschedule or cancel at least 1 day before the beginning of your appointment or you may be charged a cancellation fee.
Your commitment to your CBMT exam success is important to me, and I'm dedicated to providing consistent, high-quality guidance for your journey. To ensure the smooth operation of The Melodic Mentor and fairness to all students, please review my policies below.
1. Payment & Scheduling
Your scheduled CBMT exam tutoring session is reserved exclusively for you, ensuring personalized attention and effective guidance. Payment for all sessions (individual or package) is processed on the day of your scheduled session. By booking with me, you authorize payment according to my cancellation policy outlined below. Individual Sessions: Payment for individual sessions is processed on the day of the session.
Package Deals: For package deals, the full package payment is processed on the day of your first scheduled session. This secures your block of lessons and any preferred recurring time slot.
2. Cancellation & Rescheduling
I understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise during your study process. My policy aims to balance flexibility for students with the need to manage my instructor time effectively. "Prior notice" is defined as providing at least 24 hours' advance notice. 24+ Hours Notice (Prior Notice): Individual Sessions: No charge will be processed. If payment was pre-authorized, it will be cancelled.
Package Deal Sessions: The session will be credited back to your package, allowing you to reschedule at a mutually agreeable time.
Less than 24 Hours Notice (Late Cancellation): Individual Sessions: Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged 100% of the fixed session price on the day of the scheduled session. I regret that I cannot offer make-up sessions or refunds for late cancellations, as this time slot is difficult to fill on short notice.
Package Deal Sessions: The session will be forfeited from your package. This means the session cannot be rescheduled, and no refund will be issued, as this time slot is difficult to fill on short notice.
No-Shows: Definition: A "no-show" occurs when a student does not attend a scheduled session without any prior notification.
Consequence (Individual Sessions): The session will be charged in full on the day of the scheduled session, and no refund or make-up will be provided.
Consequence (Package Deal Sessions): The session will be forfeited from your package. No refund or make-up will be provided. Rescheduling (with proper 24+ hours notice): When proper notice is given, I will do my best to find a mutually agreeable make-up time, subject to instructor availability. Make-up sessions must be completed within 30 days of the original missed lesson and cannot be rescheduled a second time.
3. Punctuality & Time Zone Considerations (Everything Melodic Mentor is in Eastern Time)
Tutoring sessions will begin and end at their scheduled time. If a student arrives late for any reason, the session will still conclude at the original end time, and the lost time cannot be made up. Time Zone Confusion (One-Time Courtesy): I understand that time zone differences can sometimes lead to confusion. For one instance of time zone confusion, I will allow a grace period of up to 15 minutes for you to join the session from the scheduled start time. If you join within this 15-minute grace period, your session will still conclude at the original scheduled end time; the lost time cannot be made up. If you do not join within the 15-minute grace period, the session will be considered a no-show (as outlined above), and the relevant "No-Shows" policy will apply (session charged in full for individual, forfeited from package). Subsequent instances of time zone confusion will also be treated as a no-show.
